The recent military coup in Niger led to the ousting of the democratically elected government, prompting the seizure of assets belonging to politically exposed and senior officials of the deposed administration, as mandated by an ECOWAS resolution.

To address the unfolding situation, President Tinubu dispatched a high-powered delegation to Niger Republic on Thursday, August 03, led by retired General Abdulsalami Abubakar. Regrettably, the delegation was only able to meet with representatives of the junta and was unable to engage directly with the coup leaders.

The political turmoil in Niger has significantly strained relations with several other countries. Notably, Niger has severed ties with Nigeria, Togo, its former colonizer France, and the United States.
