Former Super Eagles Captain, John Mikel Obi, has openly criticized Sunday Oliseh, branding him as his worst manager

Former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, has labeled Sunday Oliseh as the "easily the worst manager I played under," expressing his sentiments on a recent episode of The Obi One podcast.

The ex-Chelsea midfielder did not mince his words, describing Oliseh as a "terrible coach" with no understanding of his role when he managed the Nigeria men’s national team from July 2015 to February 2016.

Oliseh's seven-month tenure as the Eagles head coach was marred by off-the-field controversies, including acrimonious disputes with senior team members and officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Reflecting on his brief stint under Oliseh, Mikel recounted a heated argument that transpired on the coach’s first day in camp, involving himself and Vincent Enyeama, which ultimately led to Enyeama leaving the camp and quitting the national team.

Recalling the incident, Mikel said, “I remember the first day he came into the camp. Then we reported to the camp for International duties, then he came straight at me and Vincent Enyeama, the goalkeeper, who also was very powerful back then."

Mikel elaborated on the altercation, stating, “Then Enyeama was like, ‘What’s wrong with you? Where are you getting all of these from? We are a nice group, and you just come in, and the first thing is to attack us?"

The disagreement escalated, resulting in Enyeama's departure from the camp, despite Mikel's pleas for him to stay.

Mikel didn't hold back in his assessment of Oliseh, describing him as “bitter,” “jealous,” and someone who “had no respect for speaking to anybody.”

“He (Oliseh) had absolutely no clue of how a manager is. He was a fantastic guy in his playing days, but he was a terrible coach. He absolutely had no clue of what he was doing," Mikel emphasized.

In summary, Mikel emphasized Oliseh's detrimental impact on team unity and expressed his dissatisfaction with Oliseh's coaching style, declaring him as the "easily the worst manager I played under" due to bitterness, jealousy, and a lack of respect for everyone within the team.
